"It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of the air, that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit." Robert Louis Stevenson
Spending time within a forest setting has been studied and proven to reduce psychological stress, depressive symptoms and hostility, while at the same time improving sleep and increasing both vigor and a feeling of liveliness.
Effects of forest/nature therapy are lowered levels of cortisol (the stress hormone), lowered blood pressure, pulse rate, as well as increased heart variability allowing the body to cope better with stressful situations.
Furthermore, research has shown that several days spent within a forest can boost white blood cell counts in the immune system by up to 50% for up to one month afterwards!
